No More Broken Promises
We when enter into healthcare, we promise to "do no harm." Bias causes harm, a sense of disconnect, which can be a matter of life or death. If there is no connection, then patients reports of symptoms are often dismissed or are minimized. We read about many of the women who have died or have had severe postpartum complications you will hear the same story repeatedly. " I went to the ER, I told my provider, and was told it would get better, or that my symptoms were normal." This is for providers of healthcare. Our clients should be treated as we wish our loved ones would be treated. We need to learn about bias and change our mindset to continue to learn and reflect. Its a lifelong learning process.
